Choosing a Wedding Photographer

As with many phases of your wedding planning, choosing your photographer will take some time if you want to find one that you will be happy with. Remember, you want a photographer that has a photographic style you like and who you find easy to be around. The last thing you want is a photographer that is a pain in the neck on your special day!

Visit a lot of wedding photographer's web sites to get a feeling for the various "looks" that different photographers have. Be sure to read what they write so that you have some idea if they may have more styles than you see at first on their site. If you find a photographer's web site that you are interested except that one thing is lacking, go ahead and email them to ask if they can supply it. For example, if you want a white leather wedding album cover and they do not list one, you should definitely contact them. many wedding photographers are somewhat flexible about many of their offerings.

Once you have settled on the type of look that you like, narrow your list down to five to ten photographers that you will consider visiting. Then take the plunge and get out to interview a few of them. Plan on spending half an hour to an hour and a half with each one. Once you have visited a couple of them, you interviews will go faster since you will have a good idea of what you are looking for in a photographer.

Things that are good to look at during your interview include a complete wedding on a computer and a complete album like the one you would like to order. As well, you will certainly want to see some enlargements that are as large as your parents might want to order. This would typically be up to 16" by 20" or so. Remember, once a photograph is matted and framed, the total size will be at least eight to ten inches larger in both dimensions. We mention this because people will sometimes order 30" by 40" enlargements not realizing just how huge it will be after they have matted and framed it.

Last, but most importantly, be sure you find your photographer easy to get along with! This person will be around you most of you wedding day, so you generally want someone who is unobtrusive yet very competent. The interview is the only time you will be able to evaluate this, so don't forget it!

Choosing your wedding photographer is a very important part of your wedding so that you are assured of having an album that satisfies you in the years and decades ahead. Your wedding album is almost certainly the most lasting thing you will be looking at over the coming time of your life together. Therefore, it is important to spend enough time to find a photographer that will serve you well.
